AI POLICY

Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automated Tools

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and the journal management of Electronic Integrated Computer Algorithm Journal (ENIGMA). It covers generative AI tools, such as large language models and chatbots, that create text, images, code, or other content.

1. Authors

  • Authors must disclose any use of generative AI in preparing the manuscript beyond basic language correction, editing, and formatting. The disclosure states the tool name, version, and purpose, and appears in the Methods or Acknowledgements section.
  • Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content, including any part produced with the help of AI tools. Authors must check every output, including references, for errors and fabricated information.
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work.
  • Generative AI cannot be cited as a source of information.
  • AI-generated images or figures are not allowed unless AI is the subject of the research and the method is fully described.
  • When AI or machine learning is part of the research method itself, it is described in the Methods section like any other research tool.

2. Reviewers

  • Manuscripts under review are confidential. Reviewers must not upload a manuscript, or any part of it, to a generative AI tool.
  • Reviewers must not use generative AI to write or assess their review reports. Use of a tool only to improve the language of a report the reviewer wrote personally is allowed if it is disclosed to the editor.

3. Editors

  • Editors must not upload manuscripts, review reports, or decision letters to generative AI tools, and must not use them to make or write editorial decisions.
  • Editors assess suspected undisclosed AI use according to COPE guidance and may ask authors for clarification.

4. Use of Automated Tools by the Journal

  • ENIGMA uses Turnitin for similarity checking of all submissions.
  • Results from automated tools are always verified by an editor before any decision is made. No decision is made by an automated tool alone.

5. Undisclosed Use

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of generative AI found before publication may lead to rejection. When found after publication, it is handled under the Publication Ethics policy and may lead to a correction or retraction.
