Author Guidelines

1. Scope and Article Types

ENIGMA publishes original research articles in computer science, informatics engineering, and information systems. Please read the Focus and Scope before submitting. Manuscripts outside the scope are returned without review.

2. Manuscript Preparation

  • Prepare the manuscript using the ENIGMA template. Manuscripts that do not follow the template are returned to the authors before review.
  • Manuscripts must be written in English.
  • The abstract is at most 200 words, with up to 5 keywords in alphabetical order.
  • Use IEEE citation style. Include at least 25 references, mostly recent international journals and proceedings. Self-citation must not exceed 20% of the references. The use of a reference manager (e.g., Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote) is recommended.
  • Remove author names and affiliations from the manuscript file used for review, and upload the title page with author details separately, to support double-blind review.

3. Submission

  • Submit through the online submission system after registering as an author. Submissions by email are not accepted.
  • The manuscript must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration by another journal.
  • All authors must agree to the submission. The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal.
  • Authors must disclose any conflict of interest and the source of research funding, if any.

4. Similarity Check

All submissions are checked with Turnitin. Manuscripts with an overall similarity above 20%, or with plagiarism in any section, are returned or rejected. See the Plagiarism Policy.

5. Peer Review Process

  • Manuscripts that pass initial screening are reviewed under a double-blind process by at least two independent reviewers (Reviewer A and Reviewer B) with expertise in the field. Reviewers come from institutions different from the authors' and declare no conflict of interest.
  • Authors may suggest potential reviewers in the Comments to the Editor. The editor is not obliged to invite them, and a suggested reviewer is never the only reviewer of a manuscript.
  • The editor makes the decision (accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject) based on the reviewers' reports. Review comments are sent to the authors through the journal system.
  • Manuscripts authored by members of the editorial board or reviewer team are handled by another editor, and the author takes no part in the decision on their own paper.
  • The target time from submission to first decision is about 30 days. Authors are asked to return revisions within 14 days.

6. Use of Generative AI

Authors must disclose any use of generative AI tools in preparing the manuscript, beyond basic language editing, in the Methods or Acknowledgements section. Authors remain responsible for all content. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or cited as sources.

7. Publication Ethics

ENIGMA follows the COPE guidelines. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate submission, and citation manipulation lead to rejection or retraction. See the Publication Ethics page.

8. Publication Fee

There is no submission or review fee. An Article Processing Charge is invoiced only after acceptance, and payment has no influence on the editorial decision. See the Author Fees page for the amount and waiver conditions.

9. Copyright and License

Authors retain copyright. Articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). See the Copyright & License page.

10. Publication Schedule

ENIGMA publishes two issues per year, in April and October. Accepted articles are published in the next available issue and receive a DOI.
